The future is coming and change is as inevitable as it is unavoidable, bringing bring both opportunities and challenges to all of us. It was J. F. Kennedy who described it as: “…the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future”. But to plan for an uncertain future without being able to see or accurately predict it is a major challenge. Yet, how we prepare and respond to such unknowns will determine how we can all survive, prosper and, ultimately, thrive.
Penheale seeks to navigate future change in an unpredictable world by remaining agile and quick to respond to external forces, but also alert to opportunity – both commercial and environmentally-focused.
Diversification:
The estate actively considers a range of business ideas both on and off the estate by examining to what extent they are financially feasible and how they will complement the estate’s values. By having an expanded mix of commercial activities, the risk of being reliant on a limited range of businesses will be reduced.
Increased trading exposure:
Penheale has an increased appetite for direct involvement with trading-related businesses. By playing an active role in operating future commercial enterprises, it will supplement the traditional landlord-tenant business relationships already in place – allowing for structural as well as business diversification.
Enhanced natural capital:
The estate recognises any commitment to the environment should be an ongoing conversation, as “our work is never done”. This position will ensure an ongoing devotion to existing environmentally-focused projects and also a long-term willingness to pro-actively identify, undertake and lead future programmes with the aim of incrementally improving the area’s natural capital.
Active strategy:
A robust, multi-dimensional strategy is essential for Penheale to achieve its objectives. However, this strategy will also need strategy. The world around us is subject to rapid and unpredictable change. Ongoing review and revision will allow Penheale to maintain its relevance in an unpredictable, political and economic landscape.
